Bierzo, Spain. Mencía-Based Field Blend. Practicing Organic.
A soulful, old-vine field blend led by Mencía, rounded out with Bastardo (Trousseau), Garnacha Tintorera, Palomino, Doña Blanca, and more. Sourced from multiple parcels planted between the 1890s and 1940s around Valtuille de Abajo, these vines grow on a mix of clay, sand, and alluvial stones. The wine ferments spontaneously with 50–60% whole clusters in large open-top oak vats, followed by an extended 60+ day maceration for depth and structure. Aged in neutral barrels until the next harvest and bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is Raúl Pérez at his most expressive—fragrant, textural, and layered, with the elegance and lift that define Bierzo’s finest reds.
